Sky High Ideas – SWANA Safety Ambassador Initiative
*A message written by David Biderman:
During the return flight from attending a SWANA chapter meeting in the Midwest last month, I found myself reflecting on the many conversations with SWANA members about how to best advance industry safety awareness, especially at the local level. At 35,000 feet, the idea came to me–Chapter Safety Ambassadors.
Under this new initiative, SWANA chapters will identify a member to serve as their Safety Ambassador, an immediate and useful local resource for other members to ask questions and get answers about important safety and compliance-related information. These liaisons will serve as safety leaders in their chapters and serve as subject matter experts for presentations at chapter events about how to reduce accidents and injuries.
Safety Ambassadors in each SWANA chapter will be an important component of our effort to get the solid waste and recycling industry off the federal government’s list of 10 most dangerous jobs
Several SWANA chapters have already appointed their Safety Ambassador and are beginning their work with members and other industry professionals to help reduce accidents and injuries in the solid waste industry.
Want to lead the journey as your chapter’s first Safety Ambassador? Contact your chapter president or Estela Martinez (EMartinez@swana.org) to answer the call.
SWANA’s Safety Ambassador initiative is sponsored by Alliance Wireless Technology, Inc. (AWTI).
Hope to hear from those interested.
Sincerely,
David
